Great Nutrition Gets Easier

GJ members often hear the words organic, local, and seasonal, to describe a few healthy eating edicts. Those parameters offer a bit more variety this time of year, especially for those who visit the seasonal Issaquah Farmers Market. The season is on at the Pickering Barn every Saturday from 9A to 2P. Several organic and local producers of every kind of fruit, vegetable, and quality meats and poultry bring their stocks to the market. Local and seasonal are always a hallmark of farmer's markets, but Issaquah's market also features a great selection of organic produce and meats. If you've lamented how difficult it is to eat well from most big-box grocery stores, you'll notice the opposite is true with a visit to the Farmer's Market.... now to October 12th.

On the subject of nutrition, read why you want to be cautious about the use of the word "paleo" - both the speaking and the hearing - in a recent post on Dave's health blog "Black Box Body".

GJ Staff Shoe Review

It's here! The Annual Staff Shoe Review.

We abuse and thrash them on a daily basis, but our shoes play a vital role in our workouts. Using the
incorrect shoe for a specific activity can not only hinder your performance, but put you at risk for injury. You would never play basketball in dress shoes, just as you shouldn’t try oly lifts in running shoes. Yet it’s hard to pick the perfect shoe with so many to choose from: Minimalist? Cross Trainer? Lifting shoe? Glove? It can be an expensive mistake picking one that doesn't suit you well. GJane’s coaches take at least some of the guesswork out of the problem with their recommended picks.

Bucking The Trend

Whether you’ve been part of the Gravity Jane’s community since inception or you’re a relatively new member, you may notice that the gym evolves as time goes on. New equipment shows up and constantly get moved around, wall colors change, and people come and go; on a deeper level the type of workouts change over time and an emphasis within the programming shifts. Though the workouts are specifically random, the programming behind them is not. The Gravity Janes have recognized a dangerous trend of injury in the CrossFit movement, and within the last year have begun programming to avoid the trend. Here’s the problem:
