Nicolé Headed For The Show

The CrossFit Northwest Regional Qualifying Round for the 2009 Games was held Saturday, May 16th, at Magnusen Park in Seattle. Approximately 150 athletes, one-third of them women, from Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana, competed in a test of human performance in this all-day event. When all the dust settled, only 4 men and 4 women would move on to compete in the main event in mid-July (women victors shown above).

One of those 4 women is our own Nicolé Verbrugghe (3rd from left). See all the winners and the official results here, and photos of the event here. Congratulations to all of these fine athletes.

This was one amazingly tough competition and these were some very impressive victories. We'll bring you updates on Nicolé's training and progress as the Games get close.

Please note your congratulations to her in the Comments section below.

i was told that Nicole cheated at the qualifier and that her form on the sumo high pulls during the WOD was far from correct (more of a clean than a highpull). I can't imagine someone could place 3rd in a competition without doing the exercise correctly... Does anyone have a video of her they could post to clear up this rumor? I just don't believe its true but I have heard this from more than one source.

Only ignorant people will complain about Nic's technique. I'll happily debate anyone who has the guts to reveal themselves on my radio show, but I won't respond to an anonymous Comment. Not worth the time. Nic is not only more fit, she is smarter.

This is a BIG thank you to all the Janes for these nice comments, but more importantly for the support and encouragement given to me throughout this process. This is not something an individual can accomplish alone - it takes the whole pack; and especially a leader and coach as fabulous as ours. So, I can say we are ALL going to the Games in July, and I am truly looking forward to representing Gravity Janes!

Nichole',

Way to represent the 40 something crowd. My dream is to compete in a Regional Qualifier. I am 47 years old and share the same birth date 07/07/61. You have given me inspiration.

By the way, the high top pink Chuck Taylors are smokin' hot. Mine are monochrome black. That's old school baby!

Way to rock it. I will be cheering you on from afar.

Semper Fi!
