The Changing Face Of Running
We've known for a long time - and many of you have experienced first-hand in our gym - how minimal if any footwear promotes improved mechanics in functional work. It becomes most obvious when you feel how the major lifts all benefit from flat, thin-soled, shoes over typical athletic shoes. But what about running? The last bastion of athletic footwear is falling fast as people realize natural contact with the ground promotes greater efficiencies and constructive patterns of movement in running form.
The only controversy that remains - as you'll read in this recent article that appeared in the Seattle Times - has to do with distance. We have long-promoted the virtues of shorter distances and higher intensities in the realization of the greatest benefit for time spent at that activity. This would seem to quiet whatever controversy remains about the benefits of minimalist running.
All of that athletic show technology - and the attendant cost - are proving to do more harm than good. Please let us know if you have any questions about your running or footwear, but consider a purchase of Vibrams FiveFinger shoes as a great starting point. They'll improve everything you do.
